This holiday has been celebrated since 2018, when the UN General Assembly declared 20 May World Bees Day. The date was chosen to celebrate the birthday of Antoni Yanshi, the founder of modern beekeeping, on 20 May 1734.
The programm of the holiday:
- presentation of a 40-metre long monumental panel dedicated to the Bees. The panel will show stylised bees that build up their honeycombs and fill them with pollen, parchment and honey.
The idea for the panel belongs to Gavrilik Olga, Director of Apia Alba LLC, co-founder of the BelApiUnion Union of Beekeepers’ Organizations.
The author is a muralist artist Radaslava Motsko. - opening of the exhibition of paintings “Pchalinae Uznyasenne” by the artist Ales Kvyatkovsky . A beehive, honeycomb appears to the author as a symbolic vessel of life, a beehive is associated with the sun as a life beginning.
Ales Kviatkovsky has been a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists since 1990. He works in easel painting, graphics and monumental art.
The artist has more than 30 personal exhibitions. - exhibition of children’s works “Bees Around Us” and awarding the winners of the competition.
- flash mob “Save the bees together!” – Festival participants paint hundreds of bees on the wall with colourful colours.
- Grodno Agrarian University: presentation “Honeybees at the dacha and in the city, which are the most effective for maintaining bee food supply”, master classes in beekeeping, etc.
- Y. Kupala State University: scientific presentation “Interesting facts from bee life”.
- Tasting of honey, honey exhibition of flowers, plants, works by local craftsmen
